About

The photo shows my East Hall senior homeroom. Only a quarter of the senior class, we were chosen to represent the graduating class of 1964. As it so happened, our school was selected to be profiled in that year’s June issue of Look Magazine. (since defunct) They were doing an extensive article on the first batch of baby boomers from around the USA to proceed to college and university. I didn’t know it then, but growing up in a Chicago suburb rather than Chicago and having access to what was one of the best school systems in the nation, gave me the advantage I needed as a Black kid in America. In case you didn’t spot me – that’s me on the right side in the middle.
